When’s the last time we did a 10 Things? I am really not sure, but you gon’ learn today!

Easily one of the best summers of NW music ever, I’d be truly remissed if I didn’t ensure that we ran down the top songs of the season. Because I’m feeling feisty, I’m even going to rank them and give y’all something to argue about on Twitter. Before I start though, I want to warn that I’m only picking songs with that summer feel. It really bugs me when people drop summer singles that make me feel like I should be wearing Timberlands and a Triple Goose down jacket or hanging out in my grandma’s basement with a space heater on playing video games. Summer slaps should evoke the feeling of partying in a tank top, playing sports outdoors, or driving around in broad daylight taking advantage of Washington’s recently relaxed drug policies.

That said, let’s get to it.

10) Home Is Where The Heart Is – Mat Randol x Jon Belz

Easily the most laid back song on this list, Jon and Mat get off on this one, repping well for the NBG crew on this WOHM exclusive.

9) Bogu$ – Kris Kasanova x Jarv Dee x Justin Rose x THC Billy Bada$$

If Brooklyn rapper hadn’t recruited #MoorGang originator Jarv Dee for this track, I never would have heard it, and it wouldn’t be nearly as dope. I feel like a lot of folks slept on this one, but if you’re around me much, you’ve probably turned up to this in the recent past.

8) Rider – Cally Reed ft. August Alsina

Helluva collab from the Seattle vet who linked with one of the summer’s biggest national hip-hop artists early in the summer. If you missed it, great time to catch up.

7) Easy – Vinnie Dewayne x Myke Bogan

The decision to put this on my list matched the song title. I was kinda bummed to see the video was shot mere blocks from my house yet NOBODY hit me up, but that’s cool. Still a major summer slap which will continue to see time on WOHM Radio.

6) Everything – Thaddeus David x Stewart Villain x Spoon

This is where things start getting difficult in the ranking process. This needed a video – it was supposed to have a video – but it just never happened. Nonetheless, Thaddeus, Stew and Spoon set the summer off right with a dumb fresh slap that set the bar for a great summer.

5) Chalk Em’ Out – Luck One x PropaneLv

I guess he’s going by “Hanif” now, but when this dropped, he was still Luck One. I had a hard time choosing which of his 2DopeBoyz facilitated #WeeklyWonders to choose, but the slap with PropaneLv was the most logical choice. And golly is it summery.

4) Action Figures Remix – Sam Lachow x Sol x Mario Sweet

I recently found this remix by accident, and it quickly knocked the original off the list… even without a video or a Gifted Gab feature. Sam Lachow had a great summer. Music like this explains why.

3) LEFTOVA – UGLYFRANK

Just hit play. If you argue about this song, I’LL FIGHT YOU. Tacoma is producing some great music these days, and UGLYFRANK is at the forefront of it all.

2) Summertime – Jon Belz x Trox ft. Tope & Felicia Taylor

A hot song and a hot video, the aptly named track succeeded in capturing the mostly positive feeling of a remarkably gorgeous summer in PDX and served as theme music for the #SummertimeKickback jointly thrown by We Out Here Magazine, Hip-Hop Junkies and Booty N Bass.

1) Pool Balls – Myke Bogan ft. Blossom

Best song of the summer out of the NW? I’d say yes. With a historic performance at PDX Pop Now in the bag, shout out to #SOARLOSERS camp’s Myke Bogan and the lovely Blossom for dropping the coolest heat rock possible.

Honorable mention: Nyles Davis – Rise & Grind
Now go argue amongst yourselves. @ me (@MacSmiff) if you’re about that life.
