The ‘Ryan Lewis and Macklemore’ machine is all the way turnt up right now; and their music videos have become more and more impressive with each release.
Ryan is generally known best for (and maybe most comfortable with) his work behind the camera, but he’s been caught in the act, doing some cool shit, in front of the camera as well. Here’s a list of his ten most impressive—on screen—moments.
1. Leads a mob of angry Irish men
I have no honest way of knowing whether or not the mob of Irish men were angry, but I do know that they were drunk.
One of my favorite Macklemore songs, the single for Irish Celebration, will never be available via iTunes because of the inability to get the sample cleared, but it is available for FREE via Macklemore’s SoundCloud page.
“Just because I can’t drink like a gentleman, doesn’t mean I can’t make a drinking song for the rest of ’em.”
2. Stage dives out of a second story window
There are a lot of shenanigans going on during the Can’t Hold Us video…diving into a crowd of people out of a second story window definitely gets defined as shenanigans. (Especially when you throw in the fact that the window is placed in between Shark Face Gang images.)
Ryan is no stranger to stage diving from heights; we’ll discuss this further in a moment.
3. Rides a horse while wearing a bandanna and sleeveless vest
In a seemingly random addition to their And We Danced video, Ryan and Macklemore ride in on horses to get things started.
During the video Macklemore hates on bros, inappropriately dances with girls, humps the air, breakdances, and performs a choreographed dance scene—all while wearing tights—but Ryan’s scene and outfit don’t go unnoticed.
4. Carries The Heist flag out of the ocean
More shenanigans from the Can’t Hold Us video. I’m sure the question, “Why not?” was asked a lot during the creation of this video.
5. Directs a video on top of the Space Needle
“You are the Bruce Wayne of the rap game.”
Raising The Heist flag over the Space Needle could possibly be on of the biggest moments in the history of NW Hip Hop, and it really was the “cherry on top” of their amazing production.
Fuse’s Making of the Can’t Hold Us us video shows Ryan telling Macklemore what to do while on top of the Northwest’s most famous man made landmark.
6. Gets signed by Paul Scheer for a sandwich
“It’s like Coachella, but depressing.”
Paul Scheer is hilarious. This video is great. (Speaking of record deals… I’d love to see the stack of money that labels are throwing and Ryan and Mack, now that they have two singles in Billboard’s Top 5.)
7. Drives a Delorean
Are you serious bro? A Delorean?
GTFOH.
Back to the Future made the Delorean one of the most iconic cars ever created, and pulling up to the Thrift Shop in one is one of the coolest things that has ever been done. Ever.
8. Is confronted about a song titled ‘Poison to My Ears’
“There’s good reasons we don’t bring any of this up.”
Nardwuar knows things even Bo doesn’t know, including song titles from Ryan’s high school metal band.
Being interviewed by Nardwuar is almost like a right of passage at this point. Nobody is better prepared for their interviews than Nardwuar. Few have been more entertaining than this interview filmed at SXSW earlier this year.
9. Stage dives, often
Stage diving is clearly becoming a hobby of Ryan’s. His dive from the second story balcony at the House of Blues in Chicago might be one of his most impressive caught on film so far.
10. Dives off a pirate ship
A scene we all need to add to our bucket list.
