Brash, bold, bald, and always busy, The MC Type has just released his newest solo installment, Bad Tatoos Vol. 1. On the strength of warm and wistful production by the likes of fellow Illegitimate Child Grieves and Mat Wisner of Viper Creek Club, Type spits airy inspirational and self-reflective raps between bright and melodious hooks. This straight-faced positivity may come as a surprise to those familiar with the MC’s previous solo work, which consists primarily of sharp-tongued humor rap. While former group The Let Go – alongside Kublakai and Captain Midnite – hinted at Type’s more serious side, he’s never been this unabashedly sunny. The contrast comes as a welcome intermission while we wait for his forthcoming full-length, A Good Tattoo. Listen to Bad Tatoos Vol. 1 – for free – at themctype.bandcamp.com.
