For the last couple years I’ve been hearing a lot of hype around the name Princess Nokia, who’s previously performed under the monikers Wavy Spice and Destiny. And after doing my research, I’ve learned that Princess Nokia really is a bad ass bitch. In September Nokia released her stellar, 16-track mixtape 1992 Deluxe, and now she’s embarking on a US tour that, finally, includes Portland. WOHM photographer Renee Lopez (of Miss Lopez Media) has repeatedly told me that Nokia puts on one hell of a show, is unafraid to get real on the mic, and lets her New York attitude hang out. A peruse through her YouTube collection should be enough to convince you to see her live. From gritty hip-hop on “Tomboy,” “G.O.A.T.” and “Brujas,” to R&B joints like “Orange Blossom” and “Soul Train,” there are many sides to the 25-year-old emcee. Looking at the Facebook event page, there’s already a lot of interest in the pre-sale. Tickets go on sale to the general public tomorrow at 10am PST, and my guess is that they’ll sell out fast, so don’t dilly dally.
